The sober, the ugly and the bad (chronicles from the par condicio)
Yay, the elections campaign has started! If there was one thing this country needed was the return of television fights and journalistic skirmishes.
Berlusconi's binges, Mario Monti's trolling, the pleasentness of Bersani, Casini's rotten salt 'n pepper, the red glasses of Maroni, the cavernous body of Di Pietro... but why stand here and list them all, when you're already sick and tired of them? Great question, let's leave them alone and go straight to the point.
Italy is a country that in order to solve its problems can only count on two things. Its own forces or an alien intervention. It's written in this nation's DNA. "Everything depends on me, and if it depends on me then I'm sure I'm not going to make it": is a sentence that they should have written in blood in the Constitution, rather than in a Nanni Moretti movie. The last time the Americans came to save us and we're still here paying debts, this time let's hope it's not going to be the Wehrmacht.
Because if it's true that we're voting in February, and right after the Sanremo Festival, I wouldn't be amazed if 51% of the preferences went to Nilla Pizzi. Who is actually dead. Which means we'll be forced to resort to Saviano (if Fazio will take him to the Festival as a guest). Do you understand now why in order to get out of the big trouble it's always necessary that someone comes to invade us?
From this elections campaign and the following elections, what could possibly come out? WHO could come out? Anyone. But nobody actually capable of solving anything. Why? Because the country is shattered, because there is no majority, because we're all technical commissaries when we're sitting in our armchairs, with great solutions that we don't know how to apply. It's enough to have someone do it for us, a Grillo an Ingroia, an Alfano, someone that we can criticize all the time, regardless, like good fans. That's enough to make us happy, and maybe some anticipation of Champions League. That's all, we're simpletons.
So let's enjoy once again the greatest reality show ever produced, the one in which we're all competitors and where all of us are nominated in turns, the one where you go casually from the hovel to the suite, the one in which someone still looks for comfort in a confessionary, the one in which we constantly vote, but nobody ever wins.
Let's do it with resignation and wait for someone to come save us. In the meanwhile, to make time go faster, we can still curse on live television.

L'#Opinionedeifatti: Chiudete l'Internet
Sì, ok, e poi chiudiamo l'Internet, come promesso.
Dopo, però. Adesso non posso.
Sono impegnato a trollare il Papa.
Gaspare Bitetto | @waxenit
Close the Internet
Democratically, from down below, I'd like to send you all to hell. Just to feel a bit like a Grillo fan and see what it's like.
Being a Grillo fan is like practicing extreme sports: you're not on the right, not on the left, you're not a radical, but thanks to a paradigm of fucked up politics you have the possibility of accepting organizing choices that are imposed from above, but with an impression of collective collaboration. Substantially it's like signing up to Spinoza, with the difference that the blog doesn't publish jokes, but Beppe Grillo's angry posts.
The same Grillo who, from his admin user, distributes directives to the staff, which engages the community and makes everyone feel part of a beautiful game with the goal of democracy, revolution and freedom. 32.000 voters at the Parlamentaries. Jocelyn, on Rai 2, had 4 milion viewers. Can you imagine? With these numbers, even GialloZafferano could have candidated (but then who would have explained to Bersani?).
Everything because the Grillo community is basically an ideological Frankenstein, a mix of environmentalists, vegans, alternatives, disobbedients, 99%s, violet people, orange people, bloggers, disappointed luttazzians, desperate housewives and Dexter fans. People who spend their day on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, that claims to be right with links on Wikipedia, who know Travaglio's editorials by heart and even a bit of Saviano. People who once liked Di Pietro (someone, for some time, even liked Gianfranco Fini). But communities aren't made to save countries or do revolutions. Do you think that in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia they overthrown the regimes by watching Servizio Pubblico in streaming every Thursday night?
And how do you even rule a country like Italy with a creature like that? If the plan is to dress the beast in a suit and go back to singing Puttin' on the Ritz for the next 20 years, no thanks, we've already been there. But if you imagine a plausible scenario, why don't you let us read it in the comments?
That's how it works among Grillo fans, isn't that right?
Yeah, ok, and then we close the Internet, as promised.
Later, though. Not I can't.
I'm busy trolling the Pope.

L'#Opinionedeifatti: Seppuku
Non so perché, secondo me sono buonissimi.

My dog keeps telling me I should find a job. He says I don't take care of him enough, that the house is a mess and that he's fed up with eating discount kibbles. I don't know why, I think they're great.
What my dog doesn't understand (he's called Proust, he's seven and he's a cross between a Belgian shepperd and an asshole) is that the labor market doesn't want someone like me. Regardless of whether I talk to my dog or not.
- "Thanks for participating to our interviews... we'd take you right away if you didn't have such absurd requests".
- "Absurd like what?".
- "Like pretending to get a salary".
- "I thought that was implicit".
- "It would be if you already had 10 years experience in the field and a portfolio of clients to present, or relatives ready to buy our products. I don't think this is your case. If you want we have a spot as a stagist".
- "Does it mean we're going to have sex?".
- "Only on Tuesdays and Fridays".
- "Have you ever done it with a Belgian shepperd before?".
- "Huh?".
- "Never mind. I'll call you back, maybe".
So I stay here, at home, waiting for the Seventh-day Adventists to come see me: since the day I started trafficking in Rohypnol they've become my main source of income (I won't go into the hows and whys). I'll only say that, as far as primary discard goes, I think about the content of my fridge, and the concept of deficit, I associate automatically to my neighbor's daughter (Sonia, sixteen, middle school) who spends her days howling Lady Gaga and Beyoncé songs. I can barely stand her, but only because she wears a C cup and likes to go around naked in the house.
I know nothing about macroeconomy, rating agencies and financial laws (I do know something about crack, but they told me not to write it in my cv), what I do know is that Proust keeps bragging me:
- "You know, you should find a job...".
- "If finding a job seems so easy to you, why don't you do it?".
- "Hey, I'm just a dog, I shouldn't even be talking to you".
- "Tomorrow I'll check you in a contest".
- "A contest? Those are for people who want to work for the State, old women with their poodles and anorexic girls looking for fame. I don't fit in any of those categories".
- "So how do you think we can solve the problem?".
Proust looks at me with hatred, growls, drools, and I really can't understand why. People on the street avoid me, my mom stopped calling, homeless people stopped asking for change and even the people at Mondolibri stopped trying to make me subscribe.
Where did I go wrong? All of the sudden Proust is on top of me, bites me, tries to rip off a shoulder, but I don't have the strength to react. I just let him do it. I think that at least this way he's going to get fed, and maybe my sacrifice will be worth something. A ritual suicide, this is what's going to give meaning to my useless life.
I'm losing blood, my head spins, I'm afraid. Maybe I'm really about to die.
I slowly lose conscience, and as everything goes dark, I can hear Proust chewing on me, and at one point he says: "You know what? You're even more disgusting than the discount kibbles".

L'#Opinionedeifatti: Io odio, tu odi
In compenso, l’odio continuo a coltivarlo.
- “Devi leggerlo adesso?”
A volte mi chiedo perché me lo chieda.
Gaspare Bitetto | @waxenit
I hate, you hate
I was twelve when the headmaster at my school called me to scold me priest style: "I heard you say you hate Marco Masini. You know, hate is not a christian feeling, it would be better to say you don't like him!" Thanks for the tip, headmaster! Now I have good reason to cultivate hate in a methodical way.
Because hate isn't simple nuisance, it's not antipathy. "Who hates" - they tell me - "feels that it is right, beyond laws and moral imperatives, to destroy what he hates". I would have killed Masini, but it's not easy when you're 12 and you only have one dollar a day.
Today I don't think about Masini anymore: he's already paid enough for his songs. In return, I continue to cultivate hate. I would do without, but it's stronger than me. And to think that I do like people, the problem is rather that I don't understand them!
I don't understand, for example, people who in the metro tries to go out the entrance stairs. They're alone, with hundreds of people walking in the opposite direction, while dozens of signs indicate that the passage is forbidden. What exactly is it that they do not grasp? And nobody tells them anything!
"Hey, buddy, you're trying to go out the entrance, the crowd is against you"
"No way! Just a few more nudges and I'm out!"
I don't understand people who run to catch the train that has just arrived, striking every obstacle on their way, from the stroller with an infant to the old man with the stick, and then get into an already full train, when the next one is just one minute behind. It's certainly a coincidence, but these people always have huge backpacks, or briefcases full of sharp edges and accessories that surgically penetrate other people's ribs.
I don't understand those who get off at the end of the line, but stand in front of the door from the first stop, even though the train is empty. I'm baffked by old women who want your seat and insult you if you don't give it to them, even though there are other 10 of them free. I have difficulties accepting those who don't hold on to the supports, and at the first break they fall on you, and then return to their carreer of acrobats, hoping that momentum will spare them next time, or at least make them land on a pair of nice tits.
I don't understand those who, when you ask "Are you getting off at the next one?", stare at you with a look as if they said "And what do you care?" as if you had who knows what intentions. I don't understand those who never paid the ticket and complain of the others who steal.
I don't understand those who want to get off the train before others try to get on it, when systematically they get on the train before the others got out, and I don't understand the people who necessarily need to read something, even though the vital space wouldn't allow them to, especially if they have the last nasty commercial best seller in their hands.
"Do you really need to read that now?"
"It's a lovely story, I want to know how it ends"
"She dies, will you put it away now?"
Sometimes I wonder why I end up hating people. Sometimes I wonder why I even wonder.

Ditelo voi a me.
Gaspare Bitetto | @waxenit
The Gang of the Honest
The idea of accusing Di Pietro of having done something wrong is not for me, for that Milena Gabanelli is more than enough.
If I really want to spend a few words on the matter and turn the index towards someone, I prefer to argue with those who, in the light of the new "revelations" - if we want to call them this way - rather than dedicating themselves to a fact analysis, prefer to raise the voice and defend without a thought the one who until a few days ago was considered one of the indiscussed advocate of the most honest and virtuous politicals class, with an Italy of Values that, all of the sudden, has transformed under the eyes of everyone in the Italy of immobiles (to be intended as homes, ça va sans dire). On the other side, we all know, Italy is a people of supporters, and nobody likes to see their own team playing in safety zone in order to avoid the B series.
When exactly did we quit looking at reality in an objective manner and taking position on what happens around us? When exactly did we quit having personal opinions and started to rely on others? Yes, of course, it's not as difficult, but it maks us helpless and manipulated. Even you, who are reading this post, probably, should better take it with a grain of salt and think twice before hitting the Like button at the end of the page. The question you should ask yourselves should be "What do I think about this?". If the answer is "What [name and surname] does", then the answer is wrong, because the Good, the Evil, the Right and Wrong, very often aren't absolute categories, but completely personal.
Does this make any sense? Is it an honest argument? For example: if you follow any argument of Giuliano Ferrara's you would immediately be ready to say: "It's right", but then you realize that it's extremely simple to write any kind of nonsense with a functioning argment (the Greeks had discovered that before Socrates, and look how they ended up).
And in reality, maybe because this post doesn't make much sense, as it doesn't to hear that Di Pietro might become President of the Republic, nor hearing an entire political class that the M5S won't obtain anything good, because its candidates lack experience, when now the Parliament is full of people who have a lot of it and still hasn't managed to obtain anything good.
Or maybe this post does have a sense, but don't expect me to tell you what it is. You tell me.

L'#Opinionedeifatti: Verba volant, scripta cadunt
Come facciamo? Multiamoli!
Cristo! E allora togliamogli l'accesso a internet! Ok, allora togliamogli i PC!
E no!
Come riuscirci?
Grazie, Onorevoli.

Verba volant, scripta cadunt
I try to imagine those who work at the DDL Defamation.
Damned bloggers! We need to stop them! They're many, they write constantly write, they fill every corner of the web with their reactionary articles, their researches, their posts that in a few seconds make us look stupid on the entire web.
We need to keep them from writing, we need to frighten them, eliminate that desire in them. How do we do it? Let's fine them! Let's threaten fines for tens of thousands of euro, let's make it 100.000 euro, nice and round, a nice big number that terrorizes them like 9/11. But they don't have the money, they're all poor workers who barely make it to the end of the month.
What if they don't pay? If they don't pay we'll send them to jail! But they're so many! Prisons already spill out, where are we going to put them? Right! Well, in that case let's give them house arrest! But we don't have enough money to pay the guards, who's going to control them? Good question. Let's use some electronic system. We don't have the technology, the researchers have all gone abroad and we don't have the money to buy the technology from the USA or Japan.
And anyway, once they're at home, they can spend even more time at the computer to write on their blogs, and we wouldn't have solved anything. Damn! Then let's take Internet away from them! It's useless, the air is full of wireless signals, they could connect to the Internet by using someone else's connection. Ok, then let's take their computers away from them! Yeah, right, they all have iPhones. But weren't they poor? Yes, but they manage to find the money for the iPhone. Then let's take the iPhone away from them as well.
What if they don't live alone? What if they still live with their parents? What if they share the apartment with other people? We can't take away all the computers and iPhones inside a home. Yes we can, we're the Parliament, we write the law as we like it, right? Well, no! Because the innocent would also be damaged, and then how do we explain it to the international community? What do we care about the international community? Perhaps China gives explanations to someone about what happens inside the country? No, they don't, but China is China, those actually manage to make a 10% growth on their GIP every year, we don't.
Then the markets panic, the computer and iPhones sales collapse and we're at the starting point all over again. Let's reintroduce the death penalty! Yeah, right, whatever. Gentlement, it's late, why don't we go have some drinks? Drinks! Drinks! Drinks! Ok, we're all set, we'll think about bloggers some other time.
The ghost of blog censorship has existed since the blogs were born, and yet we're all still here writing, perhaps because someone in the end has always realised that keeping a blogger from being a blogger is doable, but doing it to each and every one is absolutely impossible. What is very annoying is that in a country like Italy, in 2012, they still continue to see a problem not in those who cause a problem, but in those who talk about it, because words continue to damage honor more than any crime. Then what is the solution? Transforming words into crime.
How to do it? I'm still waiting to find out.
In the meanwhile we're all free to have our opinions and keep them for ourselves.
Thank you, Honorables.

D'altra parte, in Italia, è sempre andata così. A parole.

One laugh will bury you again
We've had enough of satire. I know, it's a bold statement and you probably aren't ready to accept it, but it's right that you make this effort and give voice to you subconsciuous that suffers every time you find your timeline filled with "jokes" inspired by the last article of Repubblica.
The problem isn't satire per se (fortunately it has been the flickering light of hope at the end of our frustrations) but the fact that, for the last few years, anyone has become convinced they are satiric authors just because they collect a few likes from other jokers of the seventh day. As if satire well written didn't require more effort than some joke told with friends at the bar, when it's time for a beer.
On the other side, in Italy, it's always been like this. If it's soccer everyone's a trainer, if it's yachting everyone's a spinnaker expert, if it's cooking, then everyone has at least one Michelin star, and if it's sex then everyone's Rocco Siffredi. In words. Of course, every now and then someone emerges from the mass, but the noise has become so high that it will soon replace Radio Maria inside ovens and intercoms and various domestic appliances.
"Satire" has been the fashion of the moment, the free hobby for thousands, a way like any other to have fun with friends; in essence a bland, reheated soup, without the flavor of the boiled meat with mustard that we used to taste. And in the end, the only ones who had an advantage are the targets that satire should hit. If once the "enemy" - real or not - was known to everyone (yes, I'm talking about Berlusconi), after his exit the enourmous mass of 2.0 jokers has found itself facing the even bigger question: "And now?". Right! And now? Who'ss the enemy? Who has the power? Who is it that we must fight? Whose abuses do we need to denounce? Monti? Banks? Europe? And if it's all of them, then why?
And here's the second big question: "Why?". We should get informed. Everything was easier when Brunetta was short, Bossi spitted, Minetti was better without a t-shirt and Veltroni kept repeating "but also". But information requires time, effort, and a complexive vision of the facts that doesn't work well with the happy hour, between a spritz and a look at the server's underwear. Dear friends of the gag, it's Game Over.
Hopefully, now that the scenario has changed, hords of neo-satiric writers that wander disoriented between the homepage of Il Fatto Quotidiano and Corriere della Sera will end up being extinct, just like zombies at dawn: they will perish, starve, and disappear forever. Just to be sure, if you happen to find one wandering around, be nice: shoot them between the eyes.
Laugh less to laugh better. It would be nice. Because in the end, "there really nothing to laugh about".

L'#Opinionedeifatti: Natural Born Killers

Natural born killers
Alright, a group of policemen has taken a 10 year old boy from school, carried him in a police car while the kid screamed for help and struggled, and when the car left, the morale was "I'm a police inspector and you're nobody."
In 5 or 6 years the same scene could have been repeated during any manifestation, and the result would have been identical, perhaps with a bit less amazement. Because the difference, this time, is that it was a child we don't know very much about, son of divorced parents we don't know much about, except for the fact that they're battling for their child as if he were some territory on the Risiko board.
It creates amazement that it were policement to grap the kid hands and feet, and the not usual bullies (in that case someone would have found it funny and the video would have become a hit on YouTube, not Repubblica). It's shocking because the violence came from the "outside", and that the kid didn't get hit by one of his parents or some random family member, in that case everything would have been silent and hidden just like dust under a carpet.
Of course, the Police is sorry, Cancellieri is upset, Schifani asks for information, the mother is shocked, the father is satisfied, Sciarelli enjoys the scoop and the rest of us are wondering what actually happened. The only one we know nothing about is the child. The father says that he is now calm, but how can you be calm when THIS law enforcement grants your protection, and when your parents, if they could, would split your DNA, 23 chromosomes each?
So I'm rooting for small Leonardo, I root for him forgetting all of this soon, so that he can grow up calm, get to puberty, make his first experiences, and just before his 18th birthday he remembers everything all of the sudden, takes the first axe and massacres every person that was involved in 8 pieces to feed the pigs, so that really nothing is left of them.
It's true, we must listen to children. Go ahead, Leonardo, I'm listening.

L'#Opinionedeifatti: School Metal Jacket
Tucidide. Discorso di Pericle agli ateniesi. E fatene tesoro.
Qui, in Italia, noi facciamo così.
Gaspare Bitetto | @waxen
School Metal Jacket
Autumn is here. You can see it from highschool students that go into heat after the first weeks of forced cohabiting in class.
So the first occupations start, the automanagement, the long fights in the family because "I'm going to stay sleep at school tonight", the first loves, the morning baton strikes from the police and the premature conversion to sadomasochism. It happens every year, just as for salmons that swim up the steram and end up numbed by a stick before they get the chance to reproduce. It's a passage rite, tribal as need, and in TV they send the news in HD to show the glistening of blood.
So now, my dear student, you have become an adult. You've discovered that in any moment you can be stripped of your civil rights and no App for your iPhone 5 can prevent that from happening. Steve Jobs hasn't changed your world, he changed his, and even though the Ministery has gifted each of your teachers with an iPad, in the administration there will still be a lack of cartridge ink for photocopies, the projector will keep not functioning and in the bathroom there will still be no trace of toilet paper. That's why you were protesting, right?
Because I didn't fully understand what the motive of the protest actually was. When I skipped classes, I did it to challenge my friends at GP2, while on the streets another session of the world's oldest roleplay went on stage. Red against black, students against institutions, children of parents against parents of children. And around the traffic, the curious and the Japanese that take pictures, as if it were San Firmino.
Year after year the newspapers get angry, the associations get angry, bloggers get angry, the indignados shout "DIBS" and after a few days of protests, puff, there goes the silence again. Te students start thinking about more concrete problems: another bad mark in biology and this year no scooter, no PlayStation, no trip to Amsterdam. We will remember them only at the next maturity exams: at the Classical Highschool, Greek. Tucidide. Pericle's speech to Athens. And treasure it.
We in Italy, we do it like this.
