Buona visione!

StartupID | Antonio Tomarchio of Beintoo

A few days ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Antonio Tomarchio, founder of Beintoo , the startup winner of the 2011 edition of LeWeb.

First of all Antonio has explained what Beintoo is: a simple concept with a lot of technology behind it. It's a platform that allows mobile apps developers to easily introduce competitive and collaborative game dynamics inside their apps. It's possible for users to have a score based on specific actions: the developer decides which actions to incentivate. [video]

The key element is the fact that it is possible to give prizes to users when they complete certain goals, and the prizes can be supplied by external sponsors, advertisers that offer promotions, coupons or special offers. This way advertisers can get new clients interacting inside a game experience, and give different types of advantages based on the type of goal that has been reached. [video]

Antonio is currently product manager for advertising in Register.it, and it is inside this context that he started working on advertising in a diffuse manner: online advertising was optimized towards the needs of the editor or advertiser, without establishing a true relationship with the final user. The idea of building an advertising model that allows final users to transferm the time spent in the virtual world into real world advantages was born. [video]

Beintoo's numbers are quite interesting, they have a global reach of 25 milion users and 3 milion daily active users, 250 developers onboard and 60 mobile apps that have been released or are about to be. The conversion rate of offers, so the real rate of purchase, is around 18-20%, much higher than other forms of advertising. They already have the potential to give out 1 milion prizes a day and 400.000 have linked their Facebook profile to Beintoo[video]

The goal for the next 12 months is having a community of users with associated profile of 10 milion users, a reach that goes from the 25 milion they have now, to 100 milion and 25 milion daily active users. As for the future, Beintoo's goal is to become the leader of internation gamification, and for 2013 they aim to have 300 milion users and 60 milion daily active users. [video]

Antonio has explained in detail how Beintoo was born, where the name comes from and which are the perspectives of diffusion and profit for developers who choose to use Beintoo's gamification engine to engage their users, just to name a few topics.

I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in detail, insight and information than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

StartupID | Johnnie Maneiro di Clapps.me @johnniemaneiro

Buona visione!

StartupID | Johnnie Maneiro of Clapps.me

A few days ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Johnnie Maneiro, founder of Clapps.me.

Clapps.me is a web app for the creation of internet pages or minisites that can be used for personal and professional goals or in case of particular events. Using Clapps is very simple: the user just has to insert an username and an email and the account is available straight away. It's possible to modify the page using the apps inside Clapps, such as changing fonts, colors, the background image or the position of the elements of the page, just to name a few. [video]

Johnnie explained that the project was born in Madrid after a meeting with some venture capitalists for another project, which was eventually rejected. The conversations carried on during that day, however, have motivated him to start working right away on what would eventually become Clapps, putting together all the keywords and the problems that were noted during the meeting.
The name of the service is a fusion of the words "cloud" and "apps". [video]

A few days a Japanese man created his page with Clapps and then published on the blog a walkthrough with every step, documented by screenshots, which brought a lot of Japanese users into  the service. To celebrate this event, the release "Tokyo" was issued, which is the Twitter app that now can be integrated in the graphic of the page.

Soon the mobile and tablet apps will be available, since programmers are already working on them, and these last few days the integration with Instagram was issued: it allows users to have as a background the last picture taken with Instagram.
In the future there might also be an integration with Facebook, but Johnnie wants to prevent Clapps from becoming a social network, since this would mean that the profiles will be uniformed. The pages are intended to be different from both Facebook (uniformed template) and MySpace (extreme customization). [video]

Clapps will never become a paid service, since all the basic functions will remain free. The business model actually includes paid apps, so the user will be able to choose whether to buy and integrate those apps in his page or not.
As for companies, they will be able to offer their clients the chance of having a personalized page with the company logo, and this service will be paid. [video]

Clapps' numbers are promising: 50-60 new pages a day, 500 subscribers and 1000 views a day. It's a personal branding and small companies communication tool, and many are already starting to create minisites using the +5 app. [video]

I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in details than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

Buona visione!

StartupID | Luca Filigheddu of Twimbow

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Luca Filigheddu, founder of Twimbow.

Twimbow was born as a way to solve some problems that Luca had as an intense Twitter user. Having started to use it very soon, already in February 2007, he also became an intense user of all the tools that allow you to use Twitter at its best, experimenting several research, ranking and scoring services.

At that point, since the services were so fragmented, Luca thought of creating one that could integrate all the necessary functions in one tool. So Twimbow was born, launched as a closed alpha in June 2010. For 13 months the feedback from users has been examined, and the service was opened through an invitation, member get member system.

Open to the public in July 2011, it currently exists only as a web app, but the programers are already working on the iOS app, which has been given top priority, especially in comparison with Android and Symbian.

Twimbow's numbers are quite interesting: it has had a growth of 15.000 active users in a month from the opening, and now it continues to grow rapidly. It has positioned itself as different from other services, at the point that it has been defined "the Apple of social media dashboards".
The toughest job will be to make sure users don't perceive Twimbow as a competitor of Tweetdeck or Hootsuite, especially because it doesn't really want to be a social media dashboard, but an innovative tool for content fruition.

Although at the moment it is perceived as a Twitter client, in the big picture it's something different: the goal is diversifying the way people discover content on Twitter, and later other social networks will be added.

We asked Luca whether Twimbow will ever have to be paid for, and he explained that they already have 3 business models ready to apply: first of all the regular user will never pay. We talked about the implementation of paid accounts for business use, especially for the mobile app, while the model based more strictly on advertising has some new strategies for inserting ads inside the app.

Since May Twimbow also has an office in San Francisco, in a co-working space that offers great opportunities for cross-feedback and a continuous exchange with other startups.

We talked about other aspects of the tool created by Luca, such as the choice of using colors to distinguish topics and users.

I invite everyone to view the interview for further detail and insight about these matters.

Enjoy!
