When getting angry isn't enough

I'm watching Ballarò, the show that's airing is among the most degrading that a poor occasional user of the TV media could find. The shifting of responsibility and direct or indirect guilt between Fini and Formigoni is something that baffles me. Actually it makes me angry, and I don't think I'm the only one.

It makes us angry to hear this talk about money, lots of it, that we've given them when it's good, that they stole from us when it's bad, that end up in these people's pockets. It makes us angry not because of the amount (well, also because of that), but because for the use or not use that is done of this money. Politics today makes us angry because the vision is of a personalistic use of the tool, of the opportunities (in the most ample and collective sense) that politics allow and that instead finish up remaining on paper. It makes us angry because politics should mean collectivity. I totally agree with Ingrao's definition:

"For me politics is: me and others together, to have an influence, even if just for an ounce, on human matters. Outside this collective action I wouldn't be able to do politics."

But as Pietro Ingrao wrote, in aswer to Stéphane Hessel and her Indignez-Vous!:

"Getting angry isn't enough. We must build a shared, active relationship. Then you can call it a movement or party or whatever."

See, reading this last part again I think about the M5S, because in the end it mirrors perfectly, at least in the ideas, in the spirit. Too bad that then, as we've seen, in the facts and retrofacts, this way, this opportunity is readily revealed in that game that cancels the creation of a politics that is born from the strength of the relationships for a common goal in favor of a scheme that is all too known and that puts someone on top, while leaving at the base of the pyramid a bunch of people robbed of their honest (I don't have any difficulty believing it) idealistic motivations.

It look like a labyrinth, if getting angry isn't enough and at some point you must do something, face politics, even from below, in a movement, and even there you don't find the exit but a wall just like all the others, then the matters gets really serious. I read a strong attribution of dignity to Politics in Ingrao's words, and I mean Politics with a capital P, which isn't the one of politicians, but in its widest sense. Dignitiy is something that is extremely difficult to conquer but at the same time extremely fast to disappear. For years this country has relied, and here it has been guilty, to its pastor, losing more and more of the natural instinct of preservation that puts you on guard when the man who leads the flock is about to enter a forest filled with wolves.

We've lost the motivation to reconquer a shared, collective dignity, capable of aspiring to that Politics that is "me and others together, to influence human matters even for an ounce". Maybe for tiredness, maybe for comodity, maybe because we were thinking about something else, caught up in our matters. Maybe the way things went has pushed us to individualism, also political, even if not conscious. But if we got angry for 20 years and we still do? Ingrao again:

"Indignation, on the other side, goes along marvellously with imperant individualism, with the solitary gesture of signing a petition or with the participation to a manifestation that lasts one day".

and along with that, I say, the new fashion of click politics or Like activism.

But mainly we've lost the ability of "practicing doubt every time the collective action, the sentiment of belonging, contrast with your effort of being free. And, even if essential, individual responsibility isn't enogh." The problem is that then, even in the moment at the end of the Berlusconi ventennial, of all that series of collective protests, nothing changed. Berlusconi fell, the protests haven't evolved, disappearing on themselves without managing to visualize and tackle the problem, that was more profound and radicated, that went deep and that persists for these reasons. Getting angry isn't enough, and maybe this post is the exact representation of that extremely rethorical individualism that Ingrao describes in the solitary gesture of signing a petition.

We must fight to find a new starting point, first of all to reconquer that lost dignity, and then put our hands on collective Politics again, that doesn't belong to politicians, but to the group that exerts it. That me and others together, to influence, even if only for one ounce, human matters.
