It's a matter of Nobel(ity)

This year the Nobel prize for Peace, which will be handed out in Oslo, went to the European Union, especially for the promotion of civil rights and the 60 years of lasting peace.

I wonder, with a certain shaking of my fingers as I write, when there will be a Nobel for memory. Because 30 miles of sea are nothing, and over there there has been a war. Do you remember Sarajevo? Do you remember the almost 4 years of siege? Do you remember the 12.000 victims? Do you remember Srebrenica? Do you remember the ethnic purge? Do you remember the mass raping? Do you remember? Remember and remember everything.

And if someone will come say that those weren't part of the Union then ask them to explain what Europe is. For those who studied even a little, not much, the history of Europe couldn't exist without the Balkans. Don't give in to those who criticize the Nobel for a matter of debt, banks, because that as well is justifying a lie, erasing memory, denying the tragedy. Because these Nobel prizes are marketing operations. The first country to give the news was Norway, specifying that they are still not interested to enter the Union. Next year Croatia will be in, will we tell them about 60 years of peace as well?

Then, how can you forget a war that has fed all media, Benetton's marketing, the fundraising, Santoro on the bridges of Serbia with the Target symbol on his chest and many other operations that are more or less humanitarian?

If we've seen, then we must tell with all the tools we have available, because speed distorts and destroys, and I think about the 18 year olds of today, the ones born in 1995, who don't know, who have only seen commemorations and speeches, or that isn't interested at all, even though I can't understand why.

I'm not doing eulogy of memory, I would only want to see that human history isn't left in the photos of websites or newspaper archives. There has been a war in Europe, and now people go there on vacation.
