Fra pochi giorni intervisteremo Emanuela Zaccone, Social Media Analyst e Researcher presso Telecom Italia, dove lavora nell’ambito della Reputation Monitoring Room.
In just a few days we will interview Emanuela Zaccone, Social Media Analyst and Researcher at Telecom Italia, where she works in the Reputation Monitoring Room. Among her main activity interests and focus are big data and Social Network Analysis.
Emanuela writes on several blogs and deals with Social TV and formation in Social Media Marketing. In 2011 she obtained her Doctorate in the universities of Bologna and Nottingham with a thesis on Audiovisual, Social media marketing and user engagement.
Telecom believed in the project she presented in July during a Working Capital stop in Bari, and from that moment her life changed. In the meanwhile, since 2009, she worked as a Social Media Strategist and Community Manager for several companies and Italian startups, and, as a blogger she dealt with topics related to social media. Thanks to a scholarship she could finish her research at the University of Nottingham, during the first half of 2011. They proposed she remain, but Telecom made her an offer she couldn't turn down: work at the startup of the newborn monitoring room. She accepted and moved to Rome.
Today she works in the Reputation Monitoring Room (which has been at the center of her speech at the Social Business Forum) in the role of analyist and researcher (she has been at the MIT Media Lab just a month ago in order to get more insights about big data and social network analysis). Social TV is another great research field.
As a freelance she works as a blogger (mainly for Young Digital Lab) and as a teacher in several courses.
We'll have the chance to talk with Emanuela about social tv, social media analysis and much much more: I invite you to send your questions using the form below!
[video]
Invito tutti a visionare l’intervista integrale, molto ricca di spunti e riflessioni.
During this interview with Massimo Mantellini, author of Manteblog since 2002, we talked about journalism, new media, blogs and their integration, but also the evolution of corporate communication and the use of social media for business.
First of all we asked Massimo what his thoughts about the utility of having a blog today are, since he will hold a panel about this topic at the International Journalism Festival. In his opinion today, more than ever, it is useful to have a blog: even though today we have many other tools at hand, some content doesn't have a better space than a blog to be commented, archived and discussed properly. Social media have several advantages over blogs, that might be considered an old tool, but that in Massimo's opinion still represents the best platform where to structure content. [video]
As for the use of Twitter by mainstream journalists, Massimo thinks that it's just a trend, an imitation of what's being done in the US: some have understood the medium and make good use of it, others simply are carried along. [video]
We asked Massimo how he explains the wave of Italian journalists on Twitter, considering these facts, and he interprets with as he did with blogs and mainstream newspapers in the past. It's basically a trend, and an overestimated one: who already has space on old media, only uses it as an additional tool that sometimes is used in the right way, others not. [video]
We also talked about the integration of social media, traditional journalism and blogs, that in Massimo's opinion represent a single matter. Journalism has changed rapidly together with the growth of the web, which is way it is now crucial to integrate the traditional activity with the filter activity, and not just produce content, since there's so much of it out there. [video]
There are many interesting people who write online and that don't have the journalist card, but that are in every way a resource: the information world becomes wider, not filtered by the journalistic system anymore, and therefore richer.
We asked Massimo what his media diet is and what his definition of journalism is, since he doesn't believe it belongs just to journalists anymore, but it belongs to anyone who wants to be a filter between the public opinion and the news. [video]
We also talked aboutEraclito and the evolution of corporate communication, especially about social media use for businesses, about the Cluetrain Manifesto and some predictions for the future of these tools. [video]
I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in details and insights than my brief synthesis.
A few weeks ago we had as our guest Nicola Mattina, founder of Elastic and social media and corporate communication expert.
First of all, Nicola explained what Elastic, the company he founded, is all about: it's a consultancy company that deals with projects that have to do with anything digital, and they manage communication projects that use digital technologies as the fundamental tools to be realized. [video]
The definition of enterprise 2.0, in Nicola's opinion, would be to bring inside the organization those technologies and practices that are generated around technologies, since every one of us experiment with them on the Internet already, especially with social media. [video]
This type of approach brings to a de-hierarchization inside companies, a process that is already happening especially in those companies that really deal with the market in a strong way. We asked Nicola which are the tools that can speed up this sharing phenomenon, but in his opinion the problem is more a cultural one, rather than a technological one. If you don't have an organizational change, no tool will be able to guarantee the transition from one approach to the other, no matter how good it is. [video]
Many of these ideas are put into action with great success in times of crisis, when the situation is so severe that companies are willing to try any kind of change, since nothing they've done until then has actually worked. Nicola thinks one of the most important transitions will be the end of the use of the computer for work, and the start of the tablet era. This transition will also bring an extended, specific app market, which will be especially designed for business activities. [video]
It is probable that a more intensive use will also bring to the need to improve the infrastructure of the web itself, but the real problem is who is going to pay for it. There's a world, the one of editors, that is extremely afraid of broadband, which is actually the technology that brings video on demand on devices, thus eliminating the need for traditional television. The consequence of the evolution of this phenomenon will be that the only ones still using TV will be the least privileged classes, while the most valuable market share will go elsewhere. It's not only a cultural matter, but also a matter of economical interests. [video]
We asked Nicola what Working Capital is, Telecom Italia's project which now goes under the name of National Prize for Innovation, which was born to finance the best ideas in 4 different fields. Italian business angels, in Nicola's experience, are extremely cautious when giving money to startups. Moreover, there's a severe lack of an ecosystem the can bring people who have developed the idea of founding a business towards a growth and maturation process in an actualy company. [video]
Nicola's main advice for those who want to open a startup is to forget about the money, and not think that they need it. With Internet startups you can actually go online very quickly, with a relatively small investment, but the first thing you must think when you open a startup is that it's a very difficult task and that whatever you're thinking is probably wrong. You have to analyze the idea, understand what's wrong with it, change it and make it more interesting.
Secondly, you need to talk about it a lot with people who are more skilled than you are, who can give you their insight and their constructive criticism about the original idea. You have to forget about the concept that, if you talk about the idea, someone is going to steal it from you. Finally it is vital to participate to any startup competition there is out there, get to know business angels, venture capitals and try to make your project take off in any possible way. [video]
We talked in more detail about these and other topics related to the world of startups, companies, and the use that they make of innovative communication tools.
I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in details and insights than my brief synthesis.
