[video]

Vi invito a visionare l‘intervista integrale, ricchissima di dettagli e approfondimenti.

Buona visione!

Intervistato.com | Emanuela Zaccone

Some time ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Emanuela Zaccone, social media analyst in Telecom Italia and an expert in social TV: we talked about big data, social networks and the opportunities that social TV represents for companies, politicians, and even traditional TV shows.

First of all we asked Emanuela how she believes the huge amounts of data gathered by mobile apps and sensores will be managed, and in what way they could be used for the benefit of the community. Emanuela revealed that at the MIT there are already several projects in this area: the data are gathered from mobile webs or from sensors, and thanks to this data a few activities of public utility have been implemented. [video]

The problem of privacy, which is much more complicated to solve in Italy, has been managed through a system of policies and explicit requests of authorization, and thanks to them quite a few useful services have been put to work.

Another question we asked Emanuela is about networking: she consideres it essencial if you manage to make it work as a web, and conceive yourself and the relationship as a know inside a system. You must have the awareness that the web should be biunivocal in order to be effective, and Emanuela thinks that it has great value as a mean to collaboration. [video]

We asked Emanuela for her definition of social TV: in her opinion there is a lot of confusion around this term, since it is often seen as an "umbrella term", that includes many interpretations, types of integration and enrichment of TV shows with an online presence.

She believes the matter to be more complex, one that deals with the matter of hardware on the one hand - smart TVs and connected TVs, and the potential that they have -, and on the other with software in a very broad sense, from online platforms to mobile apps. There are also devices that offer streamig and aggregation of fluxes all together, or those that associate the aggregation to proper gamification dynamics. [video]

As for the role of social TV in politics, we asked if it's only about opening the microphone or whether it is a true opportunity to do some partecipative democracy. In Emanuela's opinion, many politicians either use social media in the wrong way because they haven't understood how they function, or they simply use them as yet another channel where to get visibility in a unilateral way, ignoring the fact that they are actually channels for dialogue. [video]

Social TV offers opportunities, but also risks to big companies: a great oil company would be in great difficulty if it opened the conversation about its activities. At the same time, however, offering a dialogue channel and illustrating the operational processes in a collaboration optic, for example sollicitating the public to find better solutions, could actually become a great opportunity for mutual enrichment. [video]

Finally we asked what the most interesting case of social TV she's seen so far is, and Emanuela has made some distinctions: when you talk about apps, it's definitely Miso. Even though Get Glue has struggled to partner with other players in the television and videogames fields, she believes it didn't manage to surpass Miso, that even got people to produce sideshows of great quality. If we talk about the use of social tools to impact on the story telling and create conversation around topics, the winner is certainly HBO. They managed to make the characters live, make them interact with people as an extension of the story telling and they have implemented a great deal of crowdsourcing projects, integrating fan requests inside the series themselves. [video]

I invite you to view the full interview, much richer in details and insights.

Enjoy!

Prossimamente: Emanuela Zaccone @zatomas

Fra pochi giorni intervisteremo Emanuela Zaccone, Social Media Analyst e Researcher presso Telecom Italia, dove lavora nell’ambito della Reputation Monitoring Room.

Coming up soon: Emanuela Zaccone

In just a few days we will interview Emanuela Zaccone, Social Media Analyst and Researcher at Telecom Italia, where she works in the Reputation Monitoring Room. Among her main activity interests and focus are big data and Social Network Analysis.

Emanuela writes on several blogs and deals with Social TV and formation in Social Media Marketing. In 2011 she obtained her Doctorate in the universities of Bologna and Nottingham with a thesis on Audiovisual, Social media marketing and user engagement.

Telecom believed in the project she presented in July during a Working Capital stop in Bari, and from that moment her life changed. In the meanwhile, since 2009, she worked as a Social Media Strategist and Community Manager for several companies and Italian startups, and, as a blogger she dealt with topics related to social media. Thanks to a scholarship she could finish her research at the University of Nottingham, during the first half of 2011. They proposed she remain, but Telecom made her an offer she couldn't turn down: work at the startup of the newborn monitoring room. She accepted and moved to Rome.

Today she works in the Reputation Monitoring Room (which has been at the center of her speech at the Social Business Forum) in the role of analyist and researcher (she has been at the MIT Media Lab just a month ago in order to get more insights about big data and social network analysis). Social TV is another great research field.
As a freelance she works as a blogger (mainly for Young Digital Lab) and as a teacher in several courses.

We'll have the chance to talk with Emanuela about social tv, social media analysis and much much more: I invite you to send your questions using the form below!
