L’obiettivo è dunque entrare in contatto e scambiare opinioni riguardo a quel tema.

L’ingresso in Twoorty, tuttavia, sarà sempre gratuito. [video]

Buona visione!

StartupID | Carlo Crudele of Twoorty

The 26th interview for StartupID is with Carlo Crudele of Twoorty.

First of all we asked Carlo what Twoorty is and how the idea for the project was born: it is a social network that is different from other social networks we might b used to. The idea comes from a simple consideration, which is that there is a lot of content and very little time to filter and enjoy them all. So there is the need for a social network that is more focalized on the single user.

After a brief analysis, they came to the conclusion that the element that connects all users, at least on social networks, is the common interest for a certain topic, more than a sterile "contact" or friendship. The goal is to get in touch and exchange opinions about that topic.

Twoorty is born from the idea that people can connect not by friendship, but by common interest: when you sign in it looks like a classical social network, but then the user is asked to specify some topics he's interested in. From that moment onward, he will see only the news that can be interesting and engaging for him. [video]

It is a quite complex system that the team is trying to set with several mechanisms, so that the user experience can be as focalized and targeted as possible. First of all thanks to a ranking and rating system for content, which based on the votes of the community are then spread more or less, and can get at the top of a graduatory. Secondly thanks to the automatic identification of the inserted content: as Twoorty recognizes the interactions of users, it manages to refine their taste and become more precise in selecting those topics that are near the interests of the user himself, and make the experience on the social network as targeted as possible. [video]

The platform is growing slowly but steadily: there is a core of aficionados that use it in an aware manner, and that knows very well what the differences between Twoorty and other social networks are. We're talking about 2.500 people, and the numbers are climbing: the internationalization of the product is already planned, with an initial translation in English. For now the main goal is making it stable and creating a strong community that can have the tools to talk, interact, and make the value of Twoorty emerge. [video]

As for the integration with other social networks and content curation platforms that are already out there, Carlo has told us that at the moment it is already possible to make Twoorty interact with bigger social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google +), but the most interesting thing will be the possibility of integrating the RSS stream of the blog inside Twoorty, so that the posts published on the blog can appear directly in the account of the platform. [video]

This passage is very important because it allows bloggers to reach a new audience, which would have been impossible to reach in any other way, but especially meet people who share their same interests.

We asked Carlo what Twoorty's business model is, and he told us that at least now they're trying to create value in an aware community, which isn't an immediately economical value. The potential business models are many: the one they're thinking about now is selling their content, let it be articles, videos, or audio files. The value of this implementation is potentially very high, because it reaches people interested in that content: the same logic will be implemented for brands, which will initially have a free plafond. Later it will be possible to choose a paid plan, knowing that the conversion rate will be higher than paper ads. However signing up will always b free. [video]

For those who want to know more and try out Twoorty, there are some interesting features that you can check out at Twoorty.com.

Finally we asked Carlo what the economical goals and the growth perspectives for the next 6-12 months are.

I invite you to view the full interview, much richer than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!
