Buona visione!

StartupID | Roberto Esposito of Derev

The 24th interview for StartupID is with Roberto Esposito of DeRev.

First of all we asked Roberto what DeRev is and how the idea was born: the name comes from the Latin "de revolutione", and means "about the revolution". The project itself was born from a bit of thinking Roberto has done during these last few years. After analyzing the evolution of the Internet during the last two decades, he arrived to the conclusion that the Internet is the ideal tool to give power to people's ideas and transform them into something real thanks to the web. [video]

DeRev was born with this purpose, giving power to the most interesting ideas and transforming them into revolutions and projects thanks to a series of tools available for those who had the idea. The aim is to give a strong contribution to realizing the project thanks to various types of tools, based on the category and type of project: from crowdfunding to signatures, arriving to the support for elections campaigns. [video]

It is a platform that offers these tools for free to projects that range from arts to activism, arriving to partecipative democracy: DeRev can be used to guarantee transparency and interact with citizens, gather proposals and opinions on different topics. [video]

It is also quite easy to use: the user must choose whether he wants to open a new project or participate in an already existing one. Once the new project is opened , you can choose in which category to put it, and choose the most useful services based on the goal you want to reach. [video]

The platform offers a vast assortment of additional services, from those linked to discussion, such as forums, until the services for audio video streaming. It is possible to organize public debates with an audience that interacts and comments, or private meetings, with just a few people, based on your own needs. [video]

DeRev is not actually a social network, and it doesn't collide with other already existing social networks: on the contrary, it uses them to guarantee a better visibility to projects. It is possible to incorporate your Facebook and Twitter account in each project, so that information can be spread on your social webs more easily. Moreover, it is possible to export widgets and use them on your website or Facebook page in order to promote your idea. [video]

The numbers are quite interesting: in only 4 months they have managed to gather 50.000 pre-signups on the landing page, 90% of which are Italian. They have also received an investment of 1.250.000 euro as an investement in the startup from a fund. [video]

The business model is quite diversified: on the one side there's a small commission on each donation users make, but there are also other forms, based on advertising. The basic service, however, will always be free for all users. [video]

We asked what the perspectives for the future are: they hope they will manage to reach 100.000 pre-signups at the launch of the platform, and grow strongly in Italy during the next few months. The aim would be to arrive in the spring with a good number of active users, so that they can exit the Italian borders and conquer other markets. [video]

I invite you to view the full interview, much richer than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

Buona visione!

StartupID | Silvia Foglia of Twago

After the debut on Indigeni Digitali, we have the pleasure of introducing a new section of Intervistato.com: StartupID will be a space dedicated to relevant people in the startup landscape.
You can decide directly who to interview, propose your startup and decide yourself what questions to ask.

Our first video interview is with Silvia Foglia, country manager of Twago, an online intermediation platform created as a meeting point for companies and professionals - freelance or small companies - in the fields of programming, design and translations.

The idea of Twago was born in 2009, when the founder, Gunnar Berning, has decided to leave his role as a consultant for Siemens and develop a platform that could allow companies to find outsourcing solutions for those activities that were impossible with the available resources. [video]

At the moment Twago has more than 110.000 professionals in the fields of programming, web design and translation, and the value of the 4000 published projects is around 4 milion euro[video]

The mechanism is quite simple: the company searching for a professional publishes a project on the platform, specifying requests, budget, timing and necessary knowledge to do the job.
The suppliers that have the needed characteristics will receive a notification email and then send the client an offer, or estimate.
At that point the client can view the profile of every user and choose the supplier that will do the job.
For those who are searching for professionals the service is free, Twago only asks professionals for a sum per completed project. [video]

As for payment, a few months ago the "Safe-Pay" system was implemented, a method that guarantees the safety of companies and professionals alike: when a client chooses the professional that will do the job, he sends the money to a neutral bank account, where it will remain frozen until the project is indicated as completed by both parts. [video]

Twago is present, at the moment, in three European countries, but it has good perspectives of expanding in France and Portugal.

Enjoy!
