#LAmericadecide, l'Italia un po' meno

L'America ha deciso che a guidarla dovrà essere Obama, per la seconda volta, e subito buona parte della classe politica italiana è corsa a sprecarsi in complimenti al presidente riconfermato elogiando, ancora una volta, il sistema democratico americano. 

Le congratulazioni e gli elogi sono arrivati in maniera molto bipartisan, come sempre quando si tratta dello Zio Sam e del suo modello a cui per molti aspetti tendiamo sempre a guardare e con cui spesso, e in maniera del tutto comica, tendiamo a confrontarci. Talmente tanto che in alcune occasioni siamo scaduti nel plagio più bieco. Penso a quel "Si può fare" di Veltroniana memoria.

Intanto, mentre negli USA oltre che su presidente, senato, camera e alcuni posti da governatore i cittadini americani sono stati chiamati a decidere tramite referendum anche su questioni come matrimoni Gay, aborto, legalizzazione della Marijuana (solo per citarne alcuni) qui da noi quegli stessi politici che si complimentano con l'America elogiandone il sistema non riescono ancora, o non vogliono, trovare una quadra per una legge elettorale dignitosa che metta al centro il cittadino e le sue scelte. Ma di peggio, ancora si litiga su di una questione come la legge contro l'omofobia che nel 2012 non dovrebbe nemmeno essere discussa ma approvata di concerto, e subito, come ci si aspetterebbe da un paese che si dichiara democratico e civile.

Certo, ora il nuovo gonfalone della democrazia italica è questa cosa delle primarie di partito o coalizione. Peccato ci siano ancora troppi punti interrogativi che finiscono per lasciare il cittadino interdetto. Nelle settimane appena trascorse nel centro sinistra è infuriata la battaglia tra i candidati. Il problema è che questi hanno speso più tempo a darsele addosso che a spiegare agli elettori quali programmi e quali idee avevano. Poi c'è una cosa di cui almeno personalmente sento la mancanza, ed è un confronto tra gli sfidanti, oltre che l'apertura di un dibattito pubblico e serio (usanza non troppo in voga nel bel paese) su temi centrali come possono essere quelli dei diritti e delle libertà, per fare un esempio.

Il punto però è che, si parli di primarie o altre tornate elettorali, la credibilità politica continuamente colpita da scandali e decisioni quanto mai discutibili è al ribasso. Tanto che negli ultimi mesi ci siamo ritrovati a chiederci come mai fenomeni come il grillismo riescano ad ottenere risultati più che lusinghieri da nord a sud.

La società vuole politica, seria, che mantenga le promesse, che si batta per le cause, che affronti temi importanti che lo faccia parlando alla gente, con la gente. Invece si ritrova con una una classe che perora le sue cause personalistiche tralasciando il suo vero compito, il bene del cittadino e del paese, favorendo anzi "gli amici" e fingendo di sognare ogni quattro anni la non certo perfetta ma pur sempre funzionante democrazia americana.

America decides, Italy not quite

America decided that Obama will be the one to guide it, for the second time, and immediately a great deal of the Italian political class has run to compliment the reconfirmed President and praise, yet again, the American democratic system.

Congratulations and praise have arrived in a bipartisan fashion, as always when we talk about Uncle Sam and his model that we tend to look at for many aspects and with which often, and very comically, we tend to compare. So often that in some occasion we fell in the most blatant plagiarism. I'm thinking about that "Yes, we can", of Veltronian memory.

In the meanwhile, while in the USA American citizens are called to decide on the President, Senate, House and a few Governors, but also on matters such as gay marriage, abortion, cannabis legalization (just to name a few), here the same politicians that compliment America praising its system still cannot (or will not) find a solution for an elections law that has some dignity and can put the citizen and his choices in the centre. But even worse, we're still fighting on a matter such as the law against homophoby that in 2012 shouldn't even be discussed but approved immediately by default, as it would be expected from a country that declares itself democratic and civil.

Of course, now the new banner of Italian democracy is this thing of the party or coalition primaries. Too bad there are still so many question marks that end up by leaving the citizen speechless. In the last few weeks in the center-left wing the battle among candidates has gone wild. The problem is that they have spent more time blaming each other than explaining to voters what programs and what ideas they had. And then there's one thing I personally feel the absence of, and that's a confrontation between candidates, along with the opening of a public and serious debate (not very common in this country), on central topics as rights and freedoms, for example.

The point is that, if you talk about primaries or other elections, the political credibility continuously hit by scandals and wrong decisions is growing low. So low that in the last few months we've found ourselves wondering how come phenomena like grillism manage to obtain more than favorable results from north to south.

Society wants politics that is serious, that keeps its promises, that fights for causes, that faces important topics and does it speaking to the people, with the people. And instead we find ourselves with a class that bring forward its personal causes leaving its true purpose aside, which should be the good of the citizen and of the country, favoring "friends" and faking to dream, every four years, about the not certainly perfect, but still functioning American democracy.

#Berlusconi e quella #Italia che dovremmo avere in mente

Del ritorno presunto del cavaliere, di quello che noi Italiani dovremmo volere, di quello che anche la sinistra forse dovrebbe fare, del futuro che forse dovremmo cominciare a creare e non solo immaginare.

"Io credo che questa decisione noi, tutti noi, l’abbiamo assunta certo guardando ai pericoli che si venivano profilando – li avete ricordati qui questa mattina –, ma la ragione forse ci avrebbe invitato a continuare a preoccuparci del nostro particolare, della nostra famiglia, delle nostre aziende, del nostro mestiere, delle nostre professioni. Abbiamo deciso invece di dare una risposta diversa, perché abbiamo sentito che si profilava un pericolo: una nuova legge elettorale, dei politicanti incapaci di mettersi d’accordo, la possibilità che il nostro Paese fosse governato da una minoranza, da una minoranza che conosciamo bene, che ci avrebbe inflitto un futuro soffocante e illiberale. [applausi]Abbiamo sentito venire fuori dal Paese, da tutto il Paese, dal Nord, dal Sud, dalle persone di tutte le categorie, di tutte le età, una domanda, un desiderio, una voglia di cambiamento, non soltanto un cambiamento di uomini, ma anche un cambiamento del modo di fare politica. Basta con la politica delle baruffe, delle parole, delle chiacchiere, dei veti incrociati, dei vecchi rancori, delle trattative sotto il tavolo: abbiamo sentito la voglia di una politica diversa, di una politica pulita. Abbiamo sentito salire da tutte le parti la voglia di un nuovo soggetto politico, abbiamo sentito venire dal Paese la domanda di risposte concrete ai problemi concreti del Paese."

Silvio Berlusconi 

Roma, Palafiera - 6 febbraio 1994

Era il 6 febbraio del 1994, quando Berlusconi pronunciava il passaggio di qui sopra, proprio all'inizio del suo primo discorso, tenuto al Palafiere di Roma. Da allora, da quel lontano 1994 non è cambiato nulla, nulla che si possa ritenere cambiato in meglio, nessuna risposta diversa è arrivata. Il Paese ha subito un rapido, e costante, declino culturale. I valori, almeno quelli che dovrebbero essere comuni ai cittadini accomunati sotto una stessa bandiera, smarriti chissà dove. La disaffezione per la politica che ha toccato soglie inimmaginabili e di cui oggi tocchiamo con mano, anzi, con voto, i danni. Il buon gusto, persino il buon gusto in oltre vent'anni è andato smaterializzandosi.

Il grande progetto Berlusconiano insomma è fallito. O forse non è mai nato, non esisteva, ma questo allora nessuno poteva saperlo, non lo sapevano nemmeno loro (e nemmeno lui, probabilmente, ne era davvero cosciente). Piano piano durante gli anni della mia adolescenza fino alla maturità e via via arrivando fino ad oggi ho osservato i pezzi incoerenti di questo grosso puzzle cadere. E il motivo lo si ritrova banalmente nel titolo di quel libercolo che raccoglieva i discorsi di Berlusconi: L'Italia che ho in mente.

Il problema è qui, L'Italia che aveva in mente non era quella che andava bene per il Paese che è composto da una moltitudine e non da un solo uomo. Il personalismo, di cui tutta la dottrina Berlusconiana era infarcita ha finito per lasciare profonde ferite che alla lunga hanno lacerato questo Paese che ha finito per asservirsi al narcisismo di un uomo che alla "politica delle baruffe, delle parole, delle chiacchiere, dei veti incrociati, dei vecchi rancori, delle trattative sotto il tavolo" non ha detto basta, ma ne ha anzi fatto degli strumenti per mantenere il comando.

Ma dopo vent'anni basta, dopo vent'anni l'Italia che dovremmo volere, noi, Italiani, è un Paese in grado di dire No al ritorno del cavaliere, è un Paese che dovrebbe trovare il coraggio di chiedere a gran voce equità, una giustizia giusta e rapida che non vada a due o più velocità cadendo nella trappola dei distinguo a seconda degli imputati, un Paese che faccia politica per tutti e non solo per i politici, un Paese che finalmente apra gli occhi senza paure e vecchie retoriche su libertà e diritti civili, differenze etniche e culturali, un Paese la cui informazione non sia dipendente dai capricci di un tycoon e ripulita di quel pressapochismo studiato nell'infallibile formula del "meno sai e meglio stai meno problemi ci dai".

L'Italia che dovremmo volere ha gli occhi aperti sul futuro, quello di noi giovani, in maniera lungimirante. E' un Paese, quello che dovremmo volere, che investe sul domani e non sul tentativo di mantenere il comodo, per alcuni, immobilismo di oggi. L'Italia che dovremmo volere è un Paese in cui le forze politiche di centrodestra e i propri elettori dovrebbero trovare il coraggio di dire ora basta, ora ripigliamo in mano noi le redini e in cui la sinistra torna a fare la sinistra, che non è quella retorica degli ultimi venti anni, ma è quella che ha il coraggio di osare nelle proposte e non si nasconde dietro il fantasma di un nemico che poi in fondo le ha fatto tutto sommato un gran comodo perché i litigi e le correnti e i personalismi, anche li, avrebbero comunque bloccato tutto e allora tanto valeva restare nel gioco di ruolo e non rischiare.

Insomma, vent'anni dopo quel 1994 l'Italia che dovremmo avere in mente è un Paese in cui non ci dovrebbe essere più spazio per Berlusconi e per un certo modo di fare politica e di intendere il Paese. L'Italia che oggi dovremmo avere in mente è un'Italia pensata dagli Italiani, con le loro teste, perché in fondo è il Paese di tutti noi, non solo di alcuni.

Berlusconi avrà anche il diritto di ricandidarsi, ma solo se il Paese sarà in grado di dirgli "No", a 360 gradi, allora potremo finalmente dire di aver cominciato una nuova stagione, a testa alta e con credibilità davanti agli altri Paesi, e solo in quel momento potremo dire di aver compiuto il primo passo in cui per poter osservare le anomalie dell'ultimo ventennio dovremo girare la testa in dietro e non di fianco.

The Italy we should have in mind

"I believe that this decision, we - all of us, have made looking at the dangers that were appearing on the horizon - you have remembered them here this morning -, but reason would probably have invited us to continue worrying about our own, our families, our companies, our work, our professions. We decided to give a different answer instead, because we felt that a new danger was rising: a new electoral law, politicians incapable of finding an agreement, the possibility that our country was governed by a minority, a minority we all know well, that woul dhave imposed a suffocating and illiberal future on us. [round of applause] We heard from outside the country, from all the country, from the North, from the South, from people of all categories, of all ages, a question, a desire, a willingness to change, not only a change of people, but also a change in the way of doing politics. Enough with the politics of fights, of words, of chats, of cross vetos, of old spites, of agreements made under the table: we heard the need of a different politics, a clean politics. We heard from all around the desire for a new political subject, we heard from the 
country the need for concrete answers to concrete problems of the Country."

Roma, Palafiera - February 6th 1994

It was the 6th of February of 1994, when Berlusconi pronounced these words, right at the beginning of his first speech, held at the Palafiere in Rome. From that moment, from that distant 1994, nothing has changed, nothing that can be considered changed in better, no different answer has arrived. The country has suffered a fast and constant cultural decline. The values, at least those that should be common to citizens that have the same flag, have been lost who knows where. The disaffection for politics has touched inimaginable hights, and today we touch with hand, or actually with the vote, the damages. Good taste, even good taste has disappeare in these 20 years.

The great Berlusconi project has failed. Or perhaps it had never been born, it didn't exist, but nobody could know that at that time, not even then (not even him, probably, had truly aknowledged it). Little by little during the years of my adolescence until maturity and until today, I have observed the incoherent pieces of this enourmous puzzle fall. And the reason can be easily found in the title of the little book that put Berlusconi's speeches together: The Italy I have in mind.

The problem is here, the Italy he had in mind wasn't the one that was good for the country, which is composed by a mutitude of people, and not by one single man. The personalism, of which all Berlusconian doctrine is made, has ended leaving deep wounds that in time have teared the country apart. A country that has ended up as a servant to the narcisism of a man that to the "politics of fights, of words, of chats, of cross vetos, of old spites, of agreements made under the table" hasn't said "enough", but that instead has turned them into tools to mantain comand.

But after twenty years it's enough, after twenty years the Italy we should want, we Italians, is a country capable of saying "No" to the return of the Cavaliere, it's a country that should find the courage of asking equity, a rapid and just justice that doesn't go at two or more speeds, falling in the trap of distinctions based on how important the defendant is, a country that does politics for everyone and not just for politicians, a country that finally opens its eyes without fears and old retorics on freedom and civil rights, ethnic and cultural differences, a country in which information doesn't depend on the whims of a tycoon and purged of that carelessness studied in the infailible formula of "the least you know, the better you feel, the least problems you give us".

The Italy we should want has its eyes open on the future, the future of us young people, in a forward-looking manner. It is a country, the one we should want, that invests on tomorrow and not on the attempt to maintain the comfortable, at least for some, immobility of these times. The Italy we should want is a country in which the political forces of center - left wing and their voters should find the courage of saying "enough", now we're taking the reins back and in which the left wing goes back to acting as a left wing, that isn't the retorical one of the last twenty years, but the one that has the courage of daring in proposal and that doesn't hide behind the ghost of an enemy that after all has been extremely useful because the fights and the currents and personalisms, there as well, would have blocked everything and in that case it was even better to remain in the role play and not risk anything.

So twenty years after that 1994 the Italy we should have in mind is a country in which there should be no more space for Berlusconi and for a certain way of doing politics and of understanding the country. The Italy that today we should have in mind is an Italy thought by Italians, with their heads, because in the end it's the country of all of us, not only of some.

Berlusconi will have the right to recandidate, but only if the country will be able to say "No", at 360°, then we will finaly  say we've started a new season, with our heads high and with at least a bit of credibility in front of other countries, and only in that moment we will be able to say we've made the first step, in which to observe the anomalies of the last twenty years we should turn our heads behind, not sideways.
