[video]
Buona visione!

Intervistato.com | Arianna Ciccone
A few days ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Arianna Ciccone, a famous Italian journalist and the founder of the International Journalism Festival in Perugia.
One of the topics we have talked about was the use of social media and their integration with "traditional" journalism, a reality that seems to be more and more an important opportunity of mutual enrichment. [video]
During the interview Arianna has brought a very clear example, the Ushahidi Platform, which was created in Kenya after the regime had silenced all media and started killing civilians after the 2007 elections.
The platform was born with the intent of allowing citizens to send news via sms, guaranteeing the spread of information that otherwise would never have been brought to the attention of international media.
The New York Times has defined it Africa's gift to Silicon Valley, and has then been used with the same intent during the Haiti emergency, the tsunami in Japan and the trash emergency in Naples, which was created by Valigia Blu.
Social media seen as the future of information, because it's no longer possible to accept mainstream, top-down, one way information: most likely it will be enriched by the contributions of readers (user generated content) who become news generators themselves. [video]
Another topic was the "disease" of Italian journalism, which consists in not asking questions, a phenomenon which, in Arianna's opinion, is caused by the fact that journalists are very close to power.
As Tiziano Terzani said, journalists must non get too close to power. [video]
A possible model to avoid this kind of problem would be the one adopted by ProPublica, the first online website that has ever received the Pulitzer Prize. Founded by Paul Steiger, former editor of the Wall Street Journal, and financed by the Sandler Foundation, it is one of the best independent, non-profit newsrooms that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. [video]
Arianna has explained in depth her opinion about the very debated story of Spider Truman. In her opinion the content that was brought by the so-called former precarious employee are extremely fragile, considering that the informations about the caste and its privileges have been published in a systematic and detailed manner both by Espresso and in Stella and Rizzo's book.
Arianna published a post on Valigia Blu in which she expressed her bewilderment and her doubts on the story, especially on the anonimity aspect, which is unacceptable if behind it there is a political marketing operation which is maneuvered from above.
The doubts have started being even more after the publication of an interview to Gianfranco Mascia on the Fatto Quotidiano, an interview which was cited by Luca Sofri in an article titled "Spider Truman doesn't exist".
It is most certainly a story that must be cleared: Arianna has also cited the great post by Massimo Mantellini, who explains why an operation like this is bad for the Web. [video]
"It's a battle of civilization and digital culture", and this is most probably the backbone of this interview that has touched many crucial aspects of information in Italy, the story behind the foundation of the International Journalism Festival and of Valigia Blu, and even Arianna's "media diet": social media and newspapers, both paper and online (she has suggested Linkiesta, a serious and rich in content online newspaper). [video]
Of course, the questions you have sent have received their answers, one of which was the cue to talk about Valigia Blu's reportage made one year after the earthquake in L'Aquila and the one about the Hell of Terzigno, both cited by Alessandro Gilioli on L'Espresso. [video]
Last but not least, Arianna has given us a few hints about what will probabily be the innovations and possible guests of the next Internation Journalism Festival. [video]
Enjoy!

Prossimamente: Arianna Ciccone @_arianna

Coming up soon: Arianna Ciccone
Our next interview will be with Arianna Ciccone, an Italian journalist from Naples, famous for being the co-founder of the International Journalism Festival in Perugia.
After the degree in Philosophy at the Federico II University of Naples, she moved to Umbria where she enters the world of journalism. She is also the co-founder of the communication agency "Arianna's Thread", which was founded in 2000.
In 2006 she co-founded the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, together with Christopher Potter. The event grows to be the most important journalistic event in Italy. The 2010 edition was a mindblowing success with more than 120 events in 5 days, 300 speakers, more than 250 journalists, bloggers, freelance and more than 200 volunteers from all over the world. The participants were about 30.000, counting names as Al Gore and Roberto Saviano.
Since the event was only publicized using social media, the success it obtained is even more amazing.
In 2010 Arianna and other collaborators open the website "Blue Suitcase", which takes the name of the suitcase she used to carry 154.000 citizen signatures to RAI, after the national TV channel communicated the false news of Mills' "not guilty" verdict, when in fact the offense was prescripted.
As Arianna herself writes on the website, "Blue Suitcase" will continue to travel and make the voice of decent citizens heard, people who want to continue this cultural battle for correct information, a free from parties RAI, using a language that discovers the beauty of words again, without making a face at somebody, without nicknames, without screaming, without jokes, without aggressiveness, but with determination, respect and transparency.
We'll have the chance to talk with her, the symbol of a new journalism, extraordinarily close to the citizens.
As always, if you have any questions, just fill in the form above!
