Tutto questo è The Italian Show.

Magari.

P.S. S'è mangiato davvero bene. Il vino era ottimo.

Obama wins, the McDonald's hamburger changes (as well as the business)

Sleep during the night and find yourself in the morning with Obama still a president, and knowing that if you stayed awake during the night he would have won anyway. Once we listened to comments on how fashion, cool and black Obama is, just a few months and the critics will come back, I found myself in a McDonald's restaurant for a press conference.

I know it's a strange place, but it's an initiative of McDonald's Italia, which makes, only in Italy, one billion euro a year. In reality there's little America here today, because it's the roadshow they're doing to present the new burgers with territory ingredients. McDonald's in 2010 introduced recipes with parmesan and other Italian products, regional as well, very regional. Now it's the time of the Calabrese with the Calabria salami and the extra virgin olive oil, of the Veneto with Asiago, then of the Lombardo and the Trentino Alto Adige. All this is The Italian Show.

One moment. I mean, in the day of the election of the President I come in one of the global symbols of Made in USA and I find myself talking about peppers, oil, mushrooms and more. Yes, because the world is changing and the hamburger as well, symbol of American power, that now treats with other powers, given the role of some countries in the Pacific area, and in other nations of Asia - we'll soon see other burgers, perhaps the McCurry. But not only.

In the end we find ourselves in front of a new experience, the McGourmet, no hamburgers, but a true lunch, cooked by a great chef with regional ingredients, some of which used in the burgers. There are also the representatives of the new suppliers of McDonald's, iGreco for oil and Madeo for Calabria salami, who explain how difficult it is to enter the supplier list, because the standards are very high, perhaps among the highest in the world, and they show me the data. What's going on?

Do you remember that phenomenon that goes under the name of Glocal? It's Global+Local and it's the importance that territorial realities get inside the international scenario. What happens if one of the greatest brands in the world chooses you? It happens that you enter a different business circuit, like for iGreco, oil producer that now is supplier of McDonald's Switzerland and soon of McDonald's Germany.

Possible that the Made in Italy products must go through the fast food giant to make themselves known and appreciated? Maybe yes, allowed that the Slow vs. Fast war is forgotten and the goal is quality. Curious that these events follow shortly the Salon of Taste in Turin, central SlowFood event. The distances are still huge, but I think that it is an interesting marketing operation, making Made in Italy enter where it seemed impossible to. Perhaps in four years, in Ohio, which will still be one of the swing states, electors will reflect eating a calabrese. Who knows.

P.S. We ate really well. The wine was excellent.

Buona visione!

Intervistato.com | Luca Conti

Last week we had the pleasure of interviewing Luca Conti, and we faced several topics linked to journalism and social media.

First of all, Luca has described the general picture of using the new tools offered by the web in journalism. We talked about Twitter, the possibility of a new kind of bottom-up journalism, citizen journalism, and the need to carefully select the sources on the web using the same methods that were used by traditional journalism.
I couldn't help myself from asking how Italy stands on this matter, compared to Europe and the United States, and his point of view is definitely interesting. [video]

We have talked about the opportunities offered by the use of social networks inside companies, and the real possibility of implementing a solution like this in Italian realities. Of course in this context there is a cultural component that is difficult to ignore, and Luca has explained its advantages and limits extensively. [video]

I asked Luca how Italy is seen from outside, especially regarding the political situation. Disinformation, lack of interest and the lack of curiosity of young people when it comes to politics have been a few of the topics we have discussed during the interview. [video]

Finally I asked Luca to tell us more about his trip to Afghanistan, the five days he spent with the NATO troups as an embedded blogger. An unique experience that has been described in more detail. [video]

Of course, the questions you have sent us have been answered extensively, especially in the final part of the interview.
