Buona visione!

#TgWild 27.01.2012 | "Is she the best with the mouth?"

With today's video we start our collaboration with WildItaly and the Tg Wild, a satirical review of the most interesting news of the week.

The first news is about Beppe Grillo and the controversial post he published on his blog, in which he expressed his opinion about the concession of the Italian citizenship to those children who were born in Italy with non Italian parents.

The second news regards the regional counsellor Nicole Minetti: the Lombardia Region President Formigoni has declared that she wasn't supposed to be hired, but that she was recommended by Don Verzè.

In the United States a 20 year old babysitter was charged with having sex with the 14 year old boy she was looking after: the boy's mother discovered the relationship thanks to some ambiguous messages found among her son's emails.

Emilio Fede declared at La Zanzara that he intended to leave the direction of TG4 and go to Parliament. Fede, who will soon turn 81, has also expressed the desire that his place is taken by a woman journalist.

During a Spanish tv program, a man has done autofellatio, provoking outrage on social media and making the tv channel change the airing time of that program to the night hours.

Alda D'Eusanio, famous Italian tv presenter, has recently been hit by a scooter while she was crossing the street. The prognosis is now public, the doctors at the Gemelli Policlinic have declared that there are no functional or neurological deficits.

In Rio De Janeiro a 20 floor skyscraper has collapsed on other two smaller buildings: there are already researches to find the causes of the crash, but the most probable one is a structural failure of the first building, which was being renovated.

Finally a brief meditation about the cuts to parlamentary allowances the Monti Government had promised, but that haven't been yet done because of legal impediments.

I invite everyone to view this episode of Tg Wild, which from this week on you will be able to find every Sunday also on Intervistato.com.

Enjoy!

Buona visione!

StartupID | Matteo Casini of SmartLogo

A few days ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Matteo Casini, founder of SmartLogo, one of the winners of the Working Capital Grant.

The idea of SmartLogo was born from the need to find a way to use QR codes so that they are also beautiful to watch, since they're being used more and more for ad campaigns to offer more services to visitors. The idea would be to insert the information directly into the logos, allowing the user to have access to the data using a smartphone. [video]

The project has been presented at Working Capital as an idea, and until now no prototype has been developed yet, but thanks to the Grant the team has been able to start studying the possibilities of development of the application. It's a project that needs an extremely accurate study of digital watermarking techniques, which actually are the core of the project itself.

This study has partly been started already, using some informations of the MICC background, and some information from already existing documents, but the timing is still quite uncertain. They will surely need 3 - 4 months to define which marking techniques are the most adequate, and after that there will be a development phase. A test period is also necessary to reach a stable level of procedure, so these days will be dedicated to defining the timing. [video]

The Working Capital contest has given great visibility to the project, but for now the contacts have been limited to Telecom Italia, who showed great interest for SmartLogo: there haven't been, at least not until now, any contacts with other companies, but hopefully 2012 will bring new proposals and positive collaborations. [video]

The SmartLogo team is made out of 6 people, all inside MICC: Roberto Caldelli (project manager), Rudy Becarelli (development), Andrea Del Mastio (research), Irene Amerini (research) and Paolo Mazzanti (graphic and webmaster).

Matteo deals with the study of development for Digital Terrestrial Television, but he would definitely like to start working on digital watermarking thanks to SmartLogo[video]

I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in detail and insight than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

Buona visione!

Intervistato.com | Diego Bianchi

2011 was a year filled with important political events for Italy. Together with Diego Bianchi, author of Tolleranza Zoro, we have analyzed some of the most important of them, starting from the Manchester riots, to the 15th of October protests in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome, and finishing with Berlusconi's resignment.

Diego's special "Finale di Partita" has recently been aired by La7, and this interview is a more profound analysis of some aspects and facts that were only mentioned in the documentary.

First of all Diego has described the PD gathering in Piazza San Giovanni on the 5th of November, an event that had a lot of participants and was permeated by a positive atmosphere, waiting for the Berlusconi government to fall. PD Secretary Bersani has made his point very clearly regarding what he wanted to do afterwards: he was probably the most willing to go elections right away, both because the Democratic Party had the numbers at that time, and because otherwise at the next elections he would no longer be PD's secretary.

Everyone was aware of the risks of an unpopular transition government, with a compromised and dilluted presence in what was already seen as a "tears and blood" government[video]

We asked which would be the most probable candidates to cover the role of PD Secretary, and Diego has indicated three names: Nicola Zingaretti, even though he will probably become the Mayor of Rome, Chiamparino and Matteo Renzi, the current Mayor of Florence.

His initiative at the Florence Leopolda has originated a lot of discussione, especially because Bersani didn't want to participate, thus transforming the internal division of PD in a huge media phenomenon. It has been a mistake, in Diego's opinion, to give so much space to senseless discussions when it would have been so easy to just go to the Leopolda to "defuse" Renzi. [video]

On the other side, Pippo Civati and Debora Serracchiani have organized "Il Nostro Tempo", an event that hasn't had the same impact on media, probably because from a communication point of view they haven't been as resourceful, even though they had more content than Renzi.

Diego willingly didn't go to any of the events organized during the month of October, first of all because he thought it was quite strange that every leader organized their own initiative. It would have been much more productive to do just one, during which everyone would have been able to discuss and explain their position. [video]

We couldn't not ask some more details regarding the riots of Manchester and Rome, that Diego has seen in person, and that he analyzed in detail, stressing the differences between the behavior of the English and Italian police. [video]

Diego has also answered to Cristiana Alicata's question regarding PD's position when it comes to gay marriage and rainbow families, also explainaing part of a long interview he has done with D'Alema, and to Luca Alagna's question regarding the reason why in Italy we haven't had a proper Occupy movement. [video]

I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in detail and insight than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

After the Arrest of Kim Schmitz, with the charges of Internet piracy and $500 milion in revenue losses for the content industry, the news about the FBI closing Megaupload and Megavideo has spread like wildfire. There have been several discussions about the fact that the founder and the other collaborators who were arrested with him were actually apprehended in New Zealand on FBI orders, even though none of them is an American citizen.

#OpMegaupload has become a worldwide trending topic on Twitter in a matter of minutes: Anonymous has taken down the websites of the DOJ, FBI, White House, Universal Music, Copyright.org, Hadopi.fr, Warner Music, BMI, Sony Music, just to name a few!

In this Storify there are the most relevant documents and tweets about what happened, and that probably will have a huge impact on the votes of the #SOPA and #PIPA bills.

Buona visione!

Intervistato.com | Nicola Mattina

A few weeks ago we had as our guest Nicola Mattina, founder of Elastic and social media and corporate communication expert.

First of all, Nicola explained what Elastic, the company he founded, is all about: it's a consultancy company that deals with projects that have to do with anything digital, and they manage communication projects that use digital technologies as the fundamental tools to be realized. [video]

The definition of enterprise 2.0, in Nicola's opinion, would be to bring inside the organization those technologies and practices that are generated around technologies, since every one of us experiment with them on the Internet already, especially with social media. [video]

This type of approach brings to a de-hierarchization inside companies, a process that is already happening especially in those companies that really deal with the market in a strong way. We asked Nicola which are the tools that can speed up this sharing phenomenon, but in his opinion the problem is more a cultural one, rather than a technological one. If you don't have an organizational change, no tool will be able to guarantee the transition from one approach to the other, no matter how good it is. [video]

Many of these ideas are put into action with great success in times of crisis, when the situation is so severe that companies are willing to try any kind of change, since nothing they've done until then has actually worked. Nicola thinks one of the most important transitions will be the end of the use of the computer for work, and the start of the tablet era. This transition will also bring an extended, specific app market, which will be especially designed for business activities. [video]

It is probable that a more intensive use will also bring to the need to improve the infrastructure of the web itself, but the real problem is who is going to pay for it. There's a world, the one of editors, that is extremely afraid of broadband, which is actually the technology that brings video on demand on devices, thus eliminating the need for traditional television. The consequence of the evolution of this phenomenon will be that the only ones still using TV will be the least privileged classes, while the most valuable market share will go elsewhere. It's not only a cultural matter, but also a matter of economical interests. [video]

We asked Nicola what Working Capital is, Telecom Italia's project which now goes under the name of National Prize for Innovation, which was born to finance the best ideas in 4 different fields. Italian business angels, in Nicola's experience, are extremely cautious when giving money to startups. Moreover, there's a severe lack of an ecosystem the can bring people who have developed the idea of founding a business towards a growth and maturation process in an actualy company. [video]

Nicola's main advice for those who want to open a startup is to forget about the money, and not think that they need it. With Internet startups you can actually go online very quickly, with a relatively small investment, but the first thing you must think when you open a startup is that it's a very difficult task and that whatever you're thinking is probably wrong. You have to analyze the idea, understand what's wrong with it, change it and make it more interesting.

Secondly, you need to talk about it a lot with people who are more skilled than you are, who can give you their insight and their constructive criticism about the original idea. You have to forget about the concept that, if you talk about the idea, someone is going to steal it from you. Finally it is vital to participate to any startup competition there is out there, get to know business angels, venture capitals and try to make your project take off in any possible way. [video]

We talked in more detail about these and other topics related to the world of startups, companies, and the use that they make of innovative communication tools.

I invite everyone to view the full interview, much richer in details and insights than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

Buona visione!

Maria Petrescu

StartupID | Paolo Franceschetti of SOLWA

A few days ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Paolo Franceschetti, researcher at the Università Ca' Foscari in Venice and founder of SOLWA, one of the startups that won the Working Capital - Telecom Italia Grant.

The project has obtained several prizes and aknowledgements last year, first of all from the UN, that has recognised SOLWA as an idea for the development of humanity. Paolo has also participated in the TR35 Technology Review Italy, published by the MIT, and has won the prize as Innovator of the Year 2011. [video]

SOLWA is a tool that can purify salty or polluted water using only solar radiation. It is a product that, through evaporation and condensation, allows to distill water and eliminate the polluting parts practically cost-free.

The idea comes from a piece of information we all have, the water cycle, but the most difficult part of its implementation was finding ways to optimize the process, increase its efficiency and eliminating the need for electricity or gas to make it work. [video]

At the beginning the idea was destined exclusively to Third World countries as a solution to produce drinkable water, and in fact several ONGs have requested prototipes to experiment with. The product itself is intrinsecally linked to Third World countries, simply for a climatic reason: it needs a lot of solar energy to function. However there are also several local companies interested in SOLWA's core procedure, with the idea of transfering it to different sectors, particularly waste management, such as drying out sewage sludge. [video]

SOLWA's structure is very simple: it is a series of heat exchangers and a hothouse with a tub inside which the water flows. The combined action of the heat exchangers and the greenhouse effect makes the water go rapidly to 80°C, turning into steam that is then condensed. Everything that doesn't evaporate at lower temperatures, so the polluting agents, stays on the bottom of the tub and is thus separated from the distilled water obtained.

This procedure allows to eliminate salts, heavy metals and other types of polluting agents that don't suspend, and it can produce up to 10 litres/square meter a day, for free. In fact SOLWA doesn't require the use of chemicals that are usually used to purify water, nor of electricity, so once it's been bought it allows to have a continuous purifying system. [video]

The water obtained is distilled water, so SOLWA also has a post-treatment system with mineral filters that make the water drinkable. This solution is usually applied in case of bacteriological pollution, but in the case of heavy metal pollution, the polluted water is just dilluted with distilled water until the concentration is safe. [video]

We also talked about SOLWA's numbers, it's growth perspectives and the future developments that are in sight for the project. [video]

I invite everyone to view the interview, much richer in detail and information than my brief synthesis.

Enjoy!

Prossimamente: Giovanni Scrofani @jovanz74

Coming up soon: Giovanni Scrofani

Tomorrow we'll have the pleasure of interviewing Giovanni Scrofani, corporate lawyer and founder of the Gilda35 project.

Born in 1974, he develops a contradictory passion for digital and humanistic culture, which he will deal with his entire life.

One of his first memories as a child are linked to Pong games, one of the first game consoles in b/w in the 70s. He'll live the entire cursus honorum of a generation that migrated from analogic to digital in every aspect of daily life: Pong, ZX Spectrum, PC IBM, 386, 486, Pentium I, Pentium II, Pentium III, Playstation ONE, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Netbook, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Kindle.

His youth was spent learning the basics of programming in Basic, C, Visualbasic, Pascal, and attending brilliantly a classic highschool (the famous Giulio Cesare in Rome) in an experimental informatics section.

He spent the 90s reading tons of philosophy, history, Greek and Latin literature books, religious texts of the most different traditions, collecting a huge library of Sci-Fi, fantasy and fantastic classics while developing a great admiration for the cyberpunk scene and Philip K. Dick, accumulating tons of comic books of every genre and style and practising the art of cartooning at an amateur level. He traveled across the world with any kind of transportation mean, visiting Europe, North America and The Middle East. He roleplays with hyperbolic quantities of rules, he has fun testing new game systems for importers and he has such a passion for videogames that he becomes a betatester for several famous titles.

These have been very particular years. In 1995 Internet arrives in Italy. Giovanni starts to participate in the first online communities, developing a vast knowledge about the topics regarding hacking, hacktivism and digital culture. He lives the web 1.0 season passionately, seeing it as a moment of fundamental aknowledgement on social, antropological and political themes.

In 2010 he started the Gilda35 Project, the online community of "Researchers", who, through dadaist performances, digital challenges, 2.0 inquiries, tries to make people think upon the vices and virtues of today's digital culture, with a bit of satire.

He has collaborated with Brand Care Magazine and Fanpage, writing articles and didactic texts on topics linked to law and new technologies and netnography.

He is an active member of the Indigeni Digitali Association, which "promotes the debate on innovative, creative and evolutionary aspects of Italian Society, with particular regard to the systems of communication, technology, management, production of goods and service in the public and private sector with the goal of finding solutions that can also contribute to the development of Italy" (art. 2 of the Statute).

Of course, if you want to propose a question, simply fill in the form above!
